COVID-19

Updated 2021-07-27

Among our friends and family are a number of immunocompromised individuals, so we ask for your help and cooperation to keep everyone safe. The guidelines on this page are minimum precautions we will require of everyone. Please also respect the needs and requests of other guests when you're interacting with them. Different people have different levels of comfort and different medical needs.

95% of our adult guests (123 out of 129) are fully vaccinated. However, due to the rapid spread of the delta variant throughout the United States, and its apparent transmissibility by vaccinated, asymptomatic individuals, all guests are required to wear masks at all times, regardless of vaccination status, except under certain conditions.

Despite this, please bring your vaccine card or a photo of it. In the extremely unlikely case that a COVID outbreak occurs at our wedding, we will provide attendance and vaccination information to the New York health authorities.

There are three sets of conditions under which a person is permitted to remove their mask.

Condition 1: Vaccinated person in a small group

If all of the following apply, a person is permitted to remove their mask:

  • The person is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or is under 16 years old.
  • The person is outdoors and not in a vehicle.
  • The person is in a group of 8 or fewer people.
  • The group is separated by at least 8 feet from all other people.

You may join different groups throughout the day and weekend, but at any given time, if your mask is off, all of the above requirements must apply.

Condition 2: Person only with members of their own household

If all of the following apply, a person is permitted to remove their mask:

  • The person is outdoors and not in a vehicle.
  • The person is in a group of 8 or fewer people.
  • The group is separated by at least 8 feet from all other people.
  • All people in the group live together.

Condition 3: Person under 5 years of age

Children younger than 5 are permitted to attend our wedding unmasked. Children 5 years old or older must wear masks at all times, except under the conditions outlined above. If your child is having trouble wearing their mask, please separate them from others.

Clarifications

The above policy applies at all times that you are participating in our wedding. That means:

  • Masks on in the parking lot at the school.
  • Masks on in the shuttle and other vehicles.
  • Masks on during group photos.
  • Masks on during the ceremony.
  • Masks on while singing in groups.
  • Masks on while dancing.
  • Masks on in the parking lot.
  • If you'd like to sing with your mask off, you must be 8 feet away from all other people, regardless of whether they're wearing a mask.
  • Meal tables will be separated by at least 8 feet. Meal tables for households that include unvaccinated adults will be even further separated from others.

New York State COVID-19 guidelines

In addition to our own guidelines as explained above, we will also follow the state and federal guidelines. These change over time, and sometimes their online resources are a bit out of date. The best links we've found so far are the following:

  • Travel guidelines — As of 6/25, New York lifted all travel restrictions. The health form is no longer required for any visitors, regardless of their point of origin.
  • Event guidelines — As of 6/15, New York has lifted event restrictions. The previous guidelines, effective 3/22, allowed outdoor gatherings of up to 200 people, so our event met that requirement too.
